"2020 Christmas"

So, this is a very self-explanatory song. It was about the crazy year of 2020 with Covid and everything and how that affected Christmas. This will probably be a relatively short post, but let's get into the lyrics. :)

(Chorus 1)
It's a 2020 Christmas this year
We gotta wear masks as we celebrate and cheer
It's a 2020 Christmas this year
We have to sanitize when we all gather here

So, this is pretty obvious as to what it's saying. I feel like most people (who celebrate Christmas), don't wear masks and use hand sanitizer or constantly wash their hands when they are spending time with friends and family for Christmas. Now, with family and some of your friends, you may not have worn masks or sanitized anyway, but where I live, we go to church on Christmas even if it isn't a Sunday, so there we had to wear masks which we wouldn't have normally done.

(Verse 1)
We didn't get to do the things we thought we'd do
We had to quarantine and social distance, too
The amount got smaller of the things that we could buy
We had to wear masks and we could only see their eyes

Line 1: So, I'm sure that all of us, or at least most of us, had events or other things that got canceled or postponed. I know my family and I definitely did during 2020. We were visiting America like we do every few years and we had quite a few plans. And practically all of them got canceled. In some ways though, it was a good thing because sometimes it's good to take a break. Honestly, pretty much the entire year of 2020 wasn't too crazy for me because I just did school and went back and forth between my grandparents/aunt and uncle's house and the one we stayed in. Which was kind of nice. Though I missed seeing other people. But I didn't miss out on too much at home since they were on lockdown pretty soon after we left.

Line 2 & 4: Quarantine, social distancing, masks (not being able to see much of people's faces. You know what I mean. It was a big change for many if not all of us.

Line 3: In many places, there were limits set of how much of a certain grocery item or other things you could buy at a time. Which, for a family of 7 (like my family) or families even bigger, was a bit tough. But yeah.

Next is the chorus and then the next verse.

(Verse 2)
Most of our plans got postponed till early June
Then they got canceled or pushed back a month or two
We kept saying it would all be over soon
But now it's Christmas when we're normally on the move

Line 1 & 2: Plans getting postponed; getting postponed some more; getting postponed even more or even canceled. Can you honestly say that this didn't happen to you? If you can, then congrats. If not, you're like most of the world. How many things did you have that you were excited about, even after they were postponed. Things you'd waited for a while for. But then they get canceled altogether. That happened to me. We had some conferences that we were going to. And I was excited to see people I didn't get to see very often. And guess what, they got canceled.

Line 3 & 4: We thought it'd be over in maybe a month or two. "Oh, maybe a month or two more." "Well, it's been a little while but it'll end soon." "Ok, it's going down, we'll be able to go back to normal in another month or so." Over and over, we thought it'd be over. And yet, it's been almost 2 years since we first heard of Covid-19. 19. Guys, it started in 2019. Now it's coming close to the end of 2021. It's pretty crazy. (Line 4) At least where I live, during Christmas time, lots of people go on vacation. Either to the beach (yes, the beach, for those of you who live in the Northern Hemisphere), to visit family in other parts of the country or other countries altogether, or wherever else they wanted to go. But with Covid, it made it hard to do any of that.

The chorus is sung again and then there is a second chorus.

(Chorus 2)
It's a 2020 Christmas this year
But that doesn't change the reason why there's happiness and cheer
It's a 2020 Christmas this year
But that doesn't change the reason why we're gathered here

Even though Covid has been crazy, that doesn't change what Christmas is really about. Yeah, it's nice to go on vacation or visit family and friends, but that isn't what Christmas is about. It's about how Jesus came down to earth and was born as a man, to later be crucified to pay for our sins. Whether we have another "2020 Christmas" this year in 2021 or not, we need to remember that the reason for Christmas is about Jesus, not us.

(Ending)
It's a 2020 Christmas
It's a 2020 Christmas
It's a 2020 Christmas this year
But I'll choose to stay happy and hold my loved ones near

During this time, sometimes it's hard not to be depressed or sad. And that's completely understandable. But why not choose to cherish the time you have with your family and friends, even with masks and social distancing and all. Because you never know when they or you could be gone. Especially during this crazy time where so many people are sick and dying. Trust that God has a reason and plan for everything, and cherish the moments of your and others' lives.

That's it for this post. I hope you are all staying safe and healthy and I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your day/night/whatever time it is.
